The place looked as clean as it could be. There was no odor. The rooms I saw were for people who are at end-of-life, and they were very nice. They had a beautiful courtyard and a nice eating area. There are tablecloths and silverware. Assistants were working in the dining room to help people if they needed their food to be cut up or whatever. They have a nice beauty salon, a podiatrist who comes and does their nails, and a nice ice cream bar. I spoke to the activities director as she was passing by, so they have a lot of activities there. I was a nervous wreck and on top of my original injury I had quite a few medical issues that kind of held back my Physical Therapy (PT) by approximately two weeks or three weeks total. My physical therapist, Jody, was absolutely THE BEST! I would have never recovered without him and I can’t praise him enough. This rehab facility has some very top notch employees who should be commended for their service to their patients (Jody, Nicole and Scott from therapy, Christi, Brandy, Christine and Debbie from nursing, KeKe, Anthony, Maxine, Asia, DeVay, Lisa, Alexis and Precious from the CNA staff along with so many that I’m sure I am forgetting) and they are never compensated for coming in early when requested, staying late if need be, and coming in to work extra shifts when certain people don’t call and don’t show up? I’ve been involved in business my whole career and I am aware that not letting go of people who don’t want to work and not compensating those great workers is becoming the boon of these business companies who are buying up all these medical facilities. You can’t find one that actually cares about the patients because the almighty dollar always raises its ugly head and steers the management into unnecessary improvements rather than the necessary items or personnel for the patient who is paying for the service. I was infuriated by the fact that big palm trees were being installed outside my room at the back of the building, where no one can even see them while the personnel inside are scrambling for laundry, chucks and wipes? How can this facility need so much repainting and new floor covering without updating all the bathrooms with handicapped toilets! How can that be? How can there be so many shifts that no one comes to work or that it takes 40-50 minutes to get a response to the call light? Some days people couldn’t get showers because workers didn’t show up and they are working their top achievers to death and those workers will end up walking away. CNAs should not be responsible for handing out food trays, microwaving meals for patients because the trays come out cold or need silverware or condiments or whatever is necessary to eat the meal. Then they are responsible for picking the trays up afterward. All of this takes approximately 4 hours from the early shift and 2 from the afternoon shift! All this time taken away from actual patient care and certainly should not be part of their job description and probably wasn’t included in their training. These are definitely observations from a patient who has spent her entire career in business and who knows the difference between excellent patient care and excuses for money making for “big business”. This is one of the best facilities in the area and it is my hope that management takes my observations into consideration in the future and does more to return it back into a true healthcare facility. After experiencing a major hemmoragic stroke I have received extensive nursing care and restorative physical therapy here. The services provided have been absolutely top notch. All of the Nursing staff endeavors to give the best care for every service you need whether it is incontinence, bathing, dressing, or eating. They quickly respond to emergency requests for assistance. Every employee treats you with full dignity when helping you with personal care. The nursing staff worked together to help me with all my needs and each staff member took a personal interest in one of my specific wants to make sure it was being provided. Physical therapy is the dominant theme of this facility. The physical therapy Department worked very hard to help me regain and maintain neural pathways in my brain potentially damaged by the stroke. The facility itself is very nice: Clean comfortable room. Spotlesss hallways and physical therapy rooms. Secluded manicured gardens in an outdoor courtyard for strolling. Optional dinner in the restaurant. Ice cream stand open every day. Specially baked desserts including cakes, cookies and cupcakes. Movie nights with popcorn. DJ and musical entertainment throughout the month. Top quality full breakfast, lunch and dinners prepared by restaurant-trained chefs. After waiting for four hours for help for our father, we asked his nurse about it for the second time. Her exact words were "that's not my priority" and "you don't dictate my schedule." We were completely shocked with her response and the way we were spoken to. What's really startling, is that none of the other employees listening seemed shocked by her dialogue. Afterwards, we spoke to her head nurse and the administrator and he said that he's sure that she's normally sympathetic and hoped we still had a favorable view of the facility. Unbelievable! When you are in a place like this, it is already stressful. Having to deal with this kind of care is unacceptable. If patients are not your "priority," then you probably need to be in a different profession. Another issue, was dealing with the lack of dietary needs for a diabetic patient. The staff informed us that their facility was unable to accommodate our father's dietary restrictions. In turn, we had to provide many meals for him each day. I was very impressed with the profesional staff and well organized facility, the cleanliness and inviting, as I was giving a tour it was very comforting , everyone I met had a good energy and beautiful attitude , the whole energy at the facility felt good , I had my other sibling come and visit the facility and felt the same way I felt. I also want to say , incident are going to happen, or a bad apple will be hired but this is why we are there voice , I forgot to say they have a care program with the family members once every other week with all the departments managers to talk about the patient's updates and any concern you have . with that said if you get involved , this facility will always be the right one for your love ones.... I don't understand some of these people and am VERY suspicious seeing that some only have 1 review to their name? Is this just the competition or someone looking to start trouble? I had nothing but a fine experience with the Staff and facility.. so here is my same review from Yelp.. its still applies for me.. During these difficult times it is extremely important that I have complete confidence, respect and professionalism in the facility and persons taking care of my family member. I found that there at Royal Oaks Nursing and rehab.. I was from Titusville for 40 years on the shuttle program and had to move out west for work painfully leaving my parents behind. I've made many trips back there and I saw nothing but super clean and well managed nurses and cna's when I dropped in.. I am called out here in the west coast and provided accurate and detailed report on progress or issues that arose. Nurse Short has gone well and beyond the call of any duty to be alert to any of my loved ones needs and communicated that to me. I hope to return there to the area to retire, and I can tell you that I hope they will take care of us should that need arise and we need a place to give premium care. My Uncle is there currently, and he contracted a GI infection, and has to wear diapers because he can't make it to the bathroom in time anymore. He's been this way for WEEKS. I've walked up to his room only to find the staff outside arguing about who's turn it is to change him, and how bad his room smells. Well guess what sweeties - it wouldn't smell bad if you changed him or his potty chair more than twice a day! Worse than that, he cant eat because you set his food on his bed table - which is right next to his soiled potty chair. No compassion at all. He wants to file a complaint with his health insurance because he's constantly being made to lay in soiled sheets for hours at a time. When my dog is dirty - I give him a bath... my Uncle deserves the same respect. When the family calls for an update, the staff (Carla especially) is unprofessional, curt and rude. Perhaps they all should take a look at the sign outside and realize where they are working for God's sake - this is HARD on the families that have loved ones there. Real hard. We are paying you to care for our family members. Don't act like you are doing us any favors. You signed up for the position - do it well, or move on. I can't tell you the depths of my hate for this nasty place, full of heartless people. The Health Department should just shut it down! My father is currently a patient at Royal Oak. The staff is VERY rude and does not speak with the family about my father’s medical statues. They are refusing to let him out of there, the “Doctor” who is assigned to him, Alexander, refused to discharge him and will not tell us why. We have left countless messages for her to call us or meet with us to explain why he won’t be released – we even went to her office, where we were told that she would not speak to us at her office about a RO patient. Last night we were at RO and Alexander was there and we asked to speak to her to try to get some information, only to be told that she was there to see another patient and would not be in to see us. At this point he has been at RO for 20 days and has only seen Alexander two times, for literally 5 minutes. His insurance coverage ends after 20 days and he is now being charged $156 a day to stay there, $4,386 a month, to be told nothing about his health or statues.
